Having a hard time making a very simple point understood on Twitter tonight, so to elaborate with as many damn characters as I please: while I agree entirely that the decision to escalate is not a surprise, given Obama’s campaign rhetoric and generally centrist/technocratic approcach to the world, said campaign rhetoric does not make it a foregone conclusion immune to criticism. If this were really the predetermined conclusion supporters are portraying it as, he would have ordered it ten months ago. Somehow on Twitter this translates into me being opposed to careful decisions, as opposed to tragic ones.
That said, it’s extremely silly to act as if this is somehow a betrayal of all that Obama stood for.
